United 2 Serve Minutes

        Pass the word around for: Brat Sale on June 23rd ,
Thursday at Festival East.  We will be there to try to complete the
last payment on the new carpeting.
        Recommendations were made to take $500 from the United
2 Serve funds to also help pay off the last $1000 of the carpet
expenses.
        Blue Jean Sunday accomplished a lot, this past Sunday.  All
the windows were done with the exception of the inside of the
Fellowship Hall.  Woodchips were spread by many helpers, and
lots of cleaning jobs were completed.  The fellowship hall needs
wax-stripping and a general cleaning yet.  Gladys proposed we
ask for 4 different leaders to step up and assume the
responsibilities required for jobs, such as this one.  Lawnmower
maintenance, snow shoveling, and small plumbing repairs are
other items that need leaders.  Tim will take this idea to the
council on Thursday.  Smaller jobs make it easier to find
volunteers!!
        Neighborhood Block party will be the last weekend of
August with many activities:
o        Saturday morning rummage sale, Ice Cream Social w/music
o        Playhouse building Activity for the Freedom House Donation
o        Games/Food and Worship on Sunday morning (outdoors at
11:00 a.m.)
        50 days of Prayer begins on Aug. 26th as a lead-in to
celebrate what it was like to celebrate the original Ground
Breaking of Atonement.  We wish to repeat the enthusiasm from
Atonement’s beginning, 50 years ago.
        To continue with another 50 years at Atonement, to renew
the enthusiasm of U2S and perhaps to refocus, we will hold a
Congregational Input Meeting on the last Sunday of September.  
The goal is to receive mission direction.
        The band (80 members) from Luther College will be putting
on a concert for us and the community in October.  It will be a
Monday night and held in Preble Auditorium.  Pastor invited them
and is an alumnus of Luther College.  Our congregation will their
host and will be asked to house and feed them, along with help
from a few other congregations.
        The new church directory group plans to begin taking
pictures the first part of September.
        The 4 youth on the current mission trip will present July 24th
for the U2S informational presentation.  They are on their way to
Kentucky and NC this week for service work.
        Our next meeting will be Aug. 8th.  There will not be a U2S
newsletter during the month of July.
        Please watch for any help needed as Sara Helgeson gets
her requests out for VBS—to be held in August.
        Randy, please ask Mary Vandevoorde for information
regarding what is needed to get us ready for the 50th Anniversary
Celebration.  It is time for all of us to pitch in and focus on that.  
Mary is contacting Paula Breese, the anniversary celebration
leader, so she should probably have information for you to share
during the U2S presentation.
