The American Red Cross supplies nearly half
of the nation’s blood at over 3,000 hospitals
nationally. On average, 38,000 units of blood
are needed for hospital patients in the U.S.
each day. The Red Cross has a real impact on
all of us.

We all have responsibilities and are busy with
day-to-day life.  But, there is something you
can do that will have a profound and lasting
effect on other people’s lives.

You can give them your blood.

There really is power in the blood.  One pint of
your blood can help to save up to three lives.
Blood is made of three distinct components
that aid specific needs. Just think about the
number of lives we could touch if each of us
donated on a regular basis!
Currently, 38 percent of the United States
population is eligible to donate blood, but only
a small fraction actually donate.  The need for
blood is constant, and the gratification from
donating is instant.
The Red Cross is the only blood-collection
agency dedicated to helping families and
communities stay safer at home and around
the world through a broad range of services.  It
not only supplies area hospitals with blood
their patients require but is also recognized for
its valuable contributions certifying people with
vital lifesaving skills, mobilizing relief to victims
of disasters and serving as a communications
link to military personnel.
You can change a life, starting with your own,
when you donate blood through the American
Red Cross.  Share the power of your blood by
giving the gift of life.
To give blood, you need to be at least 17
years old [or 16 years old with a signed
parental form in some states], weigh at least
110 pounds and be in good health. High
school students and other donors 18 years of
age and younger also have to meet certain
height and weight requirements. For more
information, questions about eligibility or to
make your blood donation appointment, please
call the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED
CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Sincerely,

Pastor James Gerth
